2012 Photography Contest
- Individual Categories
- Spot News – A photograph of a spontaneous newsworthy
happening of which no advance knowledge or planning was possible.
- General News – A photograph of a newsworthy
happening, event or issue for which advance knowledge or planning may
have been possible.
- Daily Life – A non-newsworthy photograph that
finds the essence of everyday life.
- Sports Action – A photograph of active or interactive
play during a competitive sport or game.
- Sports Feature – A photograph on the periphery
of a sport or game not during its competitive play.
- Portrait/Personality – A photograph that captures
the essence of its subject or subjects.
- Portrait/Personality Series – A group of no
more than 12 photographs fitting the Portrait/Personality category on
a single theme.
- Pictorial – A photograph that exploits the
graphic or aesthetic qualities of its subject.
- Illustration – A picture produced from a preconceived
idea and intended to clarify, illustrate or dramatize non-visual or
editorial concepts or products.
- News Story or Essay – A group of no more than
12 photographs fitting the description of either or both of the news
categories that follows a storyline or theme.
- Daily Life Story or Essay – A group of no more
than 12 photographs fitting the description of the Daily Life category,
which follow a storyline or theme.
- Sports Story or Essay – A group of no more
than 12 photographs fitting either or both of the sports categories
following a storyline or theme.
- Multimedia – A story or theme told using a
combination of photographs, video and/or sound collected solely by the
individual entrant (winning entry is included in the Best in Show candidates).
