About the SSC

The Southern Short Course in News Photography is America's longest-running photojournalism seminar. Originally founded by the Carolinas Press Photographers Association, the SSC is now a non-profit independent organization. With its outstanding faculty, the SSC's sole purpose is to provide educational programs for students and photojournalists. Even though the word "southern" is in the name, the competition has no geographic limits and is open to anyone, student or professional.

The staff of the Southern Short Course is made up entirely of volunteers. As a non-profit organization, we operate on money raised from attendance fees and donations from newspapers, corporations and individuals. If you or your company would be interested in sponsoring or supporting the Southern Short Course in News Photography, or if you have other questions or would like more information about the Southern Short Course, please contact:

The Southern Short Course has tax-exempt status by the IRS under section 501(c)(3) of the tax code. Additionally, we are recognized under section 509(a)(2) as a publicly supported organization. This means that your sponsorship contribution is tax deductible.
